GTA 6 launch day checklist: what to do before 19 November

GTA 6 launches on Thursday 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Here’s how to be ready to play the moment it unlocks.

1. Pick your edition

Standard (£69.99) or Ultimate (£89.99). You can upgrade Standard to Ultimate later, so there’s no rush. → GTA 6 editions explained

2. Buy digital if you want to pre-load

  • Digital pre-orders can pre-load from 10 November.
  • Boxed copies are a code in a box: they arrive in shops on 12 November and still need the full download.

3. Free up about 212 GB

The download is up to 212 GB. Check your free space now in your console’s storage settings and delete or move games you’re not playing. → Pre-load dates and file size

4. Turn on automatic downloads

Leave your console in rest mode (PS5) or with auto-updates on (Xbox) so the pre-load and any launch-day update download without you.

5. Check your online subscription

If you plan to play online, make sure your PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass membership (a tier that includes online play) is active. Digital pre-orders include one free month of GTA+, which renews automatically, so set a reminder if you don’t want to keep it.

6. Avoid spoilers

Mute keywords like “GTA 6 ending” and “Jason Lucia spoiler” on X, TikTok and YouTube for the first week.

7. Bookmark our tracker

Our secrets tracker lets you tick off every secret and easter egg as you find them. It saves in your browser and needs no account.
